Class on 10/27/11

Class completed Surveys
Last two paragraphs were returned with corrections. Students discussed corrections in order to re-write paragraphs. Instructor worked with one group on moving from from copying to understand importance of using their own words (even if they make mistakes and their paragraphs are shorter!)

Instructor discussed current grade and missing paperwork individually with students.

Students worked in pairs and analyzed and corrected a previous parapraph or a different students. Students "acting as teachers" looked for key words from the original paragraph question to see if they show up in the paragraph's introductory sentence. Students also looked over the assigned reading section on "Nursery Schools" and looked for copied text where students did not use quotes.

Class on 10/20/11

Whole class reviewed returned homework and quizzes. Professor congratulated students for latest Lab Assignments.

Students read their introductory sentences on paragraph homework on Head Start. The teacher graphed the sentences for too general, correctly echoing the essay question, or too specific. Students then wrote paragraphs about three accomplishments over the past year. They then shared their topic sentences and those first sentences were graphed as well. Students showed improved ability to write introductory sentences that were not too specific and on topic. Students turned in homework and new paragraphs.

Homework:
Read about the themes of child hood development: at the end of chapter 2. Write a sentence (in your own words) describing one of the "big" ideas. Use a quote to indicate on other "big" idea.
